Washington Roofing: Asphalt Shingle and EDCO Metal Roofs
Builders Service Company installs and replaces roofs for homeowners across the state, and we have served Washington since 1974. We put equal care into two roof types: asphalt shingle roofing and EDCO metal roofing. Either one goes on as a complete system, with the underlayment, flashing and ventilation details a Washington roof needs, whether your house sits under tall firs on the west side or takes snow and hard summer sun east of the Cascades. Our roofs come with a lifetime warranty. Every project starts with a free in-home consultation, where we look at the roof you have now and talk through which option fits your home and your budget.

Products we install
Asphalt shingle roofing
Asphalt shingles fit most pitched roofs in Washington and come in a range of colors and profiles, so you can match the style of your home within your budget. We install them as a full system, not just a new top layer.

EDCO metal roofing
For metal roofs we install EDCO metal roofing. It comes in several styles for homeowners who want a different look from shingles, and it is often our recommendation where snow, wildfire or salt air shape the choice of roof.
Replacing an older roof
Most of our roofing work is replacement. If your house has cedar shakes today, worn and rotting shakes are a common reason to replace them with shingles or metal. On any tear-off we check the roof deck and note how many layers of old roofing are already on the house.
Built for Washington weather
The same roof does not suit every part of the state, so we match the details to where you live.
- Rain, moss and tree canopy (west side). Long wet seasons and overhanging trees keep roofs damp. Moss holds moisture against the roof surface and can weaken it over time. We focus on underlayment, flashing details, attic ventilation that lets moisture escape, and clean roof edges and gutters.
- Snow, freeze-thaw and sun (east side). EDCO metal roofing sheds snow, and we check the roof structure before installing. Freeze-thaw cycles and strong summer sun also shape our choice of flashing, fasteners and finish.
- Wildfire. In high-risk areas we recommend a Class A roof assembly, using metal or a Class A-rated shingle system.
- Salt air. Near the water, we use corrosion-resistant metal finishes and fasteners so the roof holds up to marine exposure.
- Chimneys and wood stoves. Homes that burn wood have more roof penetrations to seal, so we inspect chimney flashing and the cricket behind the chimney on every job.

Our process
- Consultation and inspection. We come to your home, listen to what you need and look over the roof. We watch for missing or cracked shingles, water stains on ceilings or walls, mold, and sagging rooflines.
- Measurement and material selection. We measure the roof, then help you choose between asphalt shingles and EDCO metal roofing, including color and style, and give you a detailed estimate.
- Installation. Our crew removes the old roofing, checks the deck, and installs the underlayment, flashing, ventilation and new roof surface.
- Cleanup and final check. We clear debris from your yard and gutters, then do a final inspection with you so you can see the finished work.
What our customers say
“I was very impressed with the quick response I had from Mason. … We started the project in the middle of Covid, and there was some waiting around, but that had everything to do with Des Moines inspector, not Mason. The roof went nice and quick, and overall we were very impressed.” - Judy H

Roofing FAQ
Should I choose asphalt shingles or metal roofing for my Washington home?
Both are good choices, and the right one depends on your house, your budget and where you live in the state. Asphalt shingles suit most pitched roofs and come in many colors and profiles. EDCO metal roofing sheds snow well and fits a Class A roof assembly in wildfire areas. During your free in-home consultation we look at your current roof and walk you through both options side by side.
Is EDCO metal roofing a good fit for snowy areas east of the Cascades?
Yes, snow country is where EDCO metal roofing often makes the most sense, because metal panels shed snow instead of holding it. Before we install, we check the roof structure so it is ready for the snow it will carry. East-side roofs also face freeze-thaw cycles and strong summer sun, so we plan flashing, fasteners and finish color with those conditions in mind.
What roofing should I use if my home is in a wildfire-prone area?
Choose a Class A roof assembly. We can build one with EDCO metal roofing or with a Class A-rated asphalt shingle system, both installed as a complete system. We also check the roof edges and vents, which matter alongside the roof surface itself. Tell us about your wildfire concerns at the consultation and we will plan the roof around them.
My roof is covered in moss. Does it need to be replaced?
Not always, but moss is a warning sign worth checking. Moss holds moisture against the roof, and over time trapped water can work under shingle edges and weaken the deck. During the consultation we look for the other signs that point to replacement: missing or cracked shingles, water stains on ceilings or walls, and sagging rooflines. Then we tell you plainly what we see.
Can you replace an old cedar shake roof?
Yes. We remove the shakes and replace them with asphalt shingles or EDCO metal roofing, whichever suits your home and budget. In our experience, old shakes in Washington's wet climate tend to collect moss and rot, which is often why homeowners call. We inspect the roof deck once the shakes are off and install new underlayment, flashing and ventilation as part of the job.
Do you offer financing or discounts on a new roof?
Yes to both. We offer discounts for seniors, active military, veterans and first responders, and financing is available for roofing projects. Current options are listed on our [financing page](/financing), and we can go over them with you during your free in-home consultation. Call 888-980-8580 to set up a visit, and ask about the discount that applies to your household.
