Serving Mason County, WA
Mason County homeowners can call on Builders Service Company for siding, roofing, window and deck projects. We serve two cities here with their own pages, Shelton and Belfair, along with a nearby community covered through the Shelton page. Below you’ll find how houses in the two towns differ, a short guide to each city page, and the steps to book a free in-home consultation. The plan for any exterior project starts with the age and setting of your house.
How homes differ across Mason County
Shelton and Belfair share the Hood Canal / Mason climate region, yet their houses were built in different decades and face different conditions.
Housing era. Shelton’s median home was built in 1976, but its most common construction era is before 1950. Houses from that period likely still carry original wood lap siding, possible lead paint and single-pane or early windows. Belfair is younger: its median year built is 1994, and most of its homes date from 1980–99. That was the era of composite and hardboard siding, including LP siding, which has a known history of moisture failure, along with first-generation vinyl windows.
Rain and trees versus the shoreline. Shelton gets very high rainfall under heavy tree cover, conditions that bring moss and rot to siding and roofs. Rainscreen detailing and steady gutter and roof-edge upkeep matter there. Belfair’s defining feature is its waterfront cabins, and permits there go through the county. Near the water, corrosion-resistant fasteners and flashing and finishes rated for marine exposure are the details to ask about.
Wildfire. Both cities carry a low wildfire rating, so material choices in Mason County tend to turn on moisture and shoreline exposure rather than fire.

Mason County FAQ
Which Mason County communities do you serve?

If your home is elsewhere in the county, call our Tacoma office at 253-777-0866 and we can confirm whether we reach your address. Each city page goes deeper into local housing ages and conditions, so it is a good place to start before your free in-home consultation.
How do Shelton and Belfair homes differ?
The biggest difference is age. Shelton's most common construction era is before 1950, so many homes likely have original wood lap siding and possible lead paint. Belfair's homes mostly date from 1980–99, the era of composite and hardboard siding, including LP siding with its known history of moisture failure. That history decides what we check first during a consultation: possible lead paint and original wood on older Shelton houses, signs of moisture damage on Belfair panels.
What should owners of Belfair waterfront cabins plan for?
Plan for shoreline exposure and county permits. Belfair is known for waterfront cabins, and work near salt air calls for corrosion-resistant fasteners and flashing plus finishes rated for marine exposure. For siding, we usually recommend vinyl or the [Evergreen Shield Siding System](/evergreen-shield-siding-system) in that setting; the Evergreen Shield Siding System's composite is built to resist water, humidity, mold and mildew. We'll discuss the best fit for your cabin during the free in-home consultation.
Is wildfire a concern for exterior projects in Mason County?
Wildfire is rated low in both Shelton and Belfair, so fire resistance is rarely the deciding factor here. Moisture and shoreline exposure usually matter more. Even so, if fire safety is a priority for you, the Evergreen Shield Siding System carries a Class A fire rating, the highest fire-resistance rating for construction materials, and metal siding is another option we install. We can talk through both at your consultation.
