Serving Grant County, WA
Builders Service Company replaces siding, roofing, windows and decks for homeowners in Grant County. Our service area here covers two cities with their own pages, Moses Lake and Ephrata, both on the east side of the state. The right material for your house depends on when it was built and how exposed it sits, and those two things vary from one city to the next. The sections below compare the two cities and point you to the page that covers your address.
How homes differ across Grant County
Moses Lake and Ephrata share a climate region, but their houses come from different decades.
The median home in Moses Lake was built in 1992, and the largest share of its housing went up in 2000 or later. Many of those houses still have builder-grade vinyl siding and builder-grade windows that are now reaching the age for replacement. Ephrata is older. Its median year built is 1970, and the 1950–79 era dominates. Homes from that period often have cedar, T1-11 or asbestos-cement shingle siding, with aluminum or early vinyl windows. If your Ephrata house is from that era, plan for an older wall underneath when the siding comes off.
Both cities sit in the Columbia Basin, where temperature extremes and high UV shape how exteriors age. Moses Lake adds wind-blown dust to that list, while in Ephrata it is wind. On east-side homes like these, freeze-thaw cycles, snow shedding from the roof and sun fading on siding all deserve attention.
Wildfire exposure is where the two cities split again. Ephrata is rated High and Moses Lake Elevated. In Ephrata, a Class A roof and ember-resistant vents belong in any roofing conversation.

How does the Columbia Basin climate affect the siding I choose?
Temperature extremes and high UV are the main factors, so you want siding that holds its color and stands up to freeze-thaw cycles. The Evergreen Shield Siding System has 20 built-in, fade-resistant colors that resist chipping, peeling and fading. Its insulating graphite membrane gives it R-2.0 thermal resistance, compared with R-0.61 for standard vinyl siding. Vinyl and metal siding are the other types we usually recommend, and we discuss the best fit during the free in-home consultation.
Is wildfire a bigger concern in Ephrata or Moses Lake?
Ephrata carries the higher wildfire rating, labeled High, while Moses Lake is rated Elevated. For homes with more exposure, we talk through Class A roofing, ember-resistant vents and ember-resistant decking. On the walls, metal siding or the Evergreen Shield Siding System, which has a Class A fire rating, are the options we usually point to. We look at how your house sits on its lot during the free in-home consultation.
What should I know before replacing siding on an older Ephrata home?
Find out what is on the walls now, because many Ephrata homes date from the 1950–79 era. Houses from those years often have cedar, T1-11 or asbestos-cement shingle siding. Asbestos-cement siding may contain asbestos and should be tested before removal. Once the old material is understood, we can compare vinyl, the Evergreen Shield Siding System and metal siding for your home, with stacked stone or stone veneer as an accent.
